The Grower Specialist works with the Sales Team and Growers to provide differentiated solutions/unique/proprietary growing opportunities. Work with the SGDC (Sun Gro Discovery Center) on innovation and new product development.  Provide educational training with both internal and external customers.  Quality/technical support for manufacturing facilities. Support growers/SG GC&I claim investigation, root cause determination, corrective action and resolution.


  • Provide assistance in developing/maintaining product specs and formulations.
  • Assist in evaluation of current and new raw materials qualifications, as needed.
  • Validate capability of vendors and manufacturing to meet specifications
  • Visit sites within area of responsibility every six weeks for one week to oversee calibrations, homogenity testing, review raw materials, train line operators in horticulture practices and standardized quality practices, work with Quality Techs on SQS requirements.
  • Provide Technical training to operations, sales, distributors and growers to enhance value added selling capability and upgrading knowledge base of employees.
  • Support Regulatory Team with certifications/registration, formulations and bag copies, registration, to navigate state requirements that are of a scientictic nature to achieve SG’s objectives.
  • Work with sales and SG Discovery Center on innovation and new product development opportunities.
  • Work with sales and SG Discovery Center on competetive product evaluation and testing
  • Work with sales, manufacturing and procument on opportunities to regionally source raw materials for retail products to drive out cost while maintaining quality-perfomance
  • Review and investigate GC&I claims, root cause determination and root cause corrective action and resolution.
  • Work with quality and sales to resolve escalated quality issues that are impacting customer satisfaction.
  • Participate in Business Execution teams to provide necessary information on the quality specifications for raw materials and finished product.
  • Other duties as assigned


  • Minimum BS in Horticultural Science or related field. MS or PhD preferred.
  • Minimum five years experience in the Horticulture Industry, with emphasis on greenhouse and nursery production, as well as mix production site experience


  • Must be willing to live in the assigned area as needed.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally.
